The spot is almost never in the middle of the room. It's up high, down low, or behind something. Here's where it's usually hiding.

- 4The oven door glass, held up against the window light.
- 5The switch plate by the door, where every thumb in the house has been.
- 6The return-air vent, wearing a grey beard it grew over the winter.
